Essential of Employee Recognition.
Introduction
Companies with excellent performance know how important it is to give away rewards and incentives that honour, acknowledge, and appreciate exceptional work. They are efficient ways to maintain staff morale and to reinforce corporate standards and objectives, particularly during periods of low or stagnant merit budgets, few promotions, rising health care costs, and poor levels of general job satisfaction.

Employee engagement and loyalty are fostered by a recognition culture. You can establish meaningful and purposeful activities that make employee gratitude a core part of your company culture.
An essential component of efficient administration has always been employee acknowledgment. However, in today's world, where talent acquisition is fiercely competitive, it is more crucial than ever for businesses to demonstrate their appreciation for their workforce.
Establishing a recognition programme is a fantastic place to start if you don't already have one.Great firms, however, go above and above, regularly assessing the methods by which they compensate their workforce and taking into account the significance of recognition in their corporate culture. This becomes a greater issue for executives as their organisations grow, and they need to reconsider how they may enhance the employee appreciation programme.

Why Employee Recognition Matters,
From a very early age, we crave recognition from parents, teachers and friends. So strong is our desire for positive affirmation, particularly during developmental periods, that we can even perceive a neutral reaction as a negative one.

This continues to hold true as we move into the workplace. Employee recognition helps to:
Retain top talent
Increase employee engagement
Encourage high performance
Best practices for employee recognition,
- Make recognition frequent—Frequent recognition builds a strong culture of appreciation and increases the use of the platform. Every time organizations double the number of recognitions in their company, their overall engagement is expected to increase 5 percentage points. Recognizing employees’ achievements on a regular basis shows them that you are continuing to notice their good work.
- Tie recognition to specific behaviors—Whether they are large or small, tying recognition to specific actions reinforces desirable behavior. Plus, 92 percent of employees agree that when they are recognized for a specific action, they are more likely to take that action in the future. This means that employers have the power to direct which key behaviors to emphasize and encourage, particularly those in line with a company’s mission. Any behavior that exemplifies company values should be especially lauded with positive and supportive recognition. Remember to always personalize your recognition and clearly communicate the action you are rewarding.
- Recognize employees in real time for maximum impact—It would feel disingenuous if your manager recognized you today for something you did months ago. Recognizing someone in real time shows that you are consciously paying attention to their everyday efforts and acknowledging their contributions.
Summary
One important human resources technique that promotes psychological well-being at work is employee recognition. It is well acknowledged that implementing employee appreciation programmes improves engagement and productivity within an organisation. In addition to reviewing theoretical viewpoints on the effects of recognition on employees' performance, satisfaction, engagement, and well-being—where applicable empirical research is available—this chapter also attempts to give a brief overview of the various employee recognition programmes that are currently in place. After that, it offers recommendations for further research as well as consequences for laws and procedures. Occupational health psychology, management science, and industrial and organisational psychology literature provide a number of theoretical frameworks for the effects of employee appreciation. The existing body of theoretical and empirical literature integrates conventional theories of motivation.

Just like you have mentioned, we all crave for recognition from a very young age. When it comes to the corporate world, there is no difference. Like you have mentioned in this article when we do not get recognised for the work we do, we come to a point where we think "what's the point of doing this anyway, nobody appreciates me". Great article on why employee recognition matters. This is one reason why most of the organisations lose their top talent as you also have mentioned. Great article. Well done!
